∵, According to question,

          x-5=8y

          x-8y=5                            ...eq1

and,

         x+5=3y

         x-3y=-5                            ...eq2

equating both equations we get

      5y=10

        y=10/5

        y=2

putting value in equation 1

        x-16=5

        x=16+5

       x=21

∵,father's age is 21 years and son's age is 2 years
