Answer:

The passive would be "Lunch was had by us at 2 pm", but that is a really awkward and clumsy sentence.

The main reason you would want to use a passive is to make the 'patient' (the thing being acted on) more prominent in the sentence by moving it to the beginning. In English we like the 'topic', the thing we are talking about, to come first. In this case the natural way to do that is "Our lunch was at 2pm", or just "Lunch was at 2pm".

In this case it makes very little difference anyway as "we had" can be unstressed, so as the first stressed word in the sentence "lunch" would be prominent enough.

What is the passive voice of, "I am going to the market"?

Active: I am going to the market.

Passive: The market is being gone to [by me].

To go is an intransitive verb here. Normally, sentences with intransitive verbs cannot be made passive, as they lack a direct object to promote to the subject position. But there’s this thing that some linguists call a prepositional object. If we can find such an object in the active-voice sentence, we can make the sentence passive.

Here’s one now!

They sit upon chairs. → Chairs are sat upon [by them].

Not every intransitive-verb sentence with a prepositional phrase has a prepositional object; clearly this won’t work:

They sleep during the day. → The day is slept during [by them]. ✘

.

Now, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. But I think you already know that.
