During the time between 1612 to 1687 Surat presidency was the presidency of the English East India Company. This was founded by the time when they first established their factory in Surat, the western Indian port and remained until they moved to the Bombay Presidency. At its peak, the  Presidency covered all plants on the west coast such as Balasore, Ahmadabad, Bombay, Hughly etc. Moreover, the president of Surat used his power over Madras.
