The suppression that most Indians felt under the rule of colonial powers, was what actually prompted nationalism among Indians. The very thought among the common man that they were living the lives of second-class citizens in their own country, brought out nationalism in them. Progressive leaders and thinkers helped to channel this collective fervour and bring it out as a nationalist movement.

The West had outspoken thinkers and authors, whose works helped to a certain extent, in shaping the ideals of thinkers and leaders of India. However, this would have played only a minor role, in bringing out Indian nationalism.

Answer:

It is a great thing that people believe in nationalism even as times and eras change. I tend to think it does.

Explanation:

For people who have held to their traditions for too long but get mixed up with the world, the western culture has made Indians more aware that they need each other a lot more now than ever; in their religion, spirituality, and patriotism
