Answer:

Many actions can be taken at this time by the government and the people who are suffering from the situation -

  1. Recycled wastewater and Rainwater harvesting - These ease pressure on natural water bodies and groundwater, and allow for reduced scarcity. Groundwater recharge is a well-known process to prevent water scarcity.
  2. Pricing - Appropriate pricing of water should be done to deal with the shortage of water so that everyone can afford it.
  3. Develop and enact better policies and regulations - New rules and regulations, and projects should be launched. For example, “Swajal” is a pilot project, launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. It is a demand-driven programme that involves the community to provide sustainable access to safe drinking water in rural areas people.
  4. Improve distribution infrastructure - Poor infrastructure is devastating to the economy and health, and it wastes resources, diminishes the quality of life, adds costs, and allows to spread of preventable water-borne diseases.
  5. Shrink corporate water footprints - Industrial water consumption is 22 percent of global consumption. The water in the corporate footprint is the water that is used indirectly or directly in the production of goods and products. This is increasing the severity of water scarcity.
