The amount of dissolved oxygen in water is fairly low compared to the amount of oxygen in the air. Hence, the aquatic organisms has much faster rate of breathing. Terrestrial organisms, on the other hand, obtain oxygen from the oxygen - rich atmosphere through respiratory organs. So, they breathe at a lesser rate than aquatic organisms. Thus terrestrial organisms can facilitate better utilization of food by way of respiration.
