M. Hamel was a loyal teacher as well as a true patriot. M. Hamel fulfilled his fruitful duties as a teacher, teaching French language. But when he got to know about the shocking news of French prohibition in the country, he became extremely desperate. At that last moment of teaching French language, he didn't only advice but also share his own views towards his native language.

M. Hamel vent out his true feelings towards the French language as he made his students as villagers realise the importance of their mother tongue. He blamed the parents for not paying heed on their children's studies. He blamed himself too for sending his students on some work outside.

M. Hamel indeed showed the tactful significance of mother language because as being a citizen it is fully expected to have special space for mother tongue only then one can be known as a true patriot. But in case of M. Hamel, he was angst because few of his students like, Franz wasn't even able to speak the French language.
