Broadly, two factors affect the choices we make in our lives for different things (Career, relationship, food, clothes, etc.)
1. Existing conditions and your needs/requirements: Basically, if you choose something, it mostly depends on the situation you are in. Suppose, you are hungry and you don't know to cook, so you will pay little bit extra to have food. Same depends in other aspects too. So, prevailing conditions can affect your choices.
2. Your capabilities and abilities: When you are able to do something and have faith in yourself, then you are able to make tough decisions no matter what the conditions are. Suppose, a doctor specialized in heart transplant, then even if situations are critical, then also he will choose to save the patient's life by doing surgery. And, suppose if he don't have faith, in that case, he may refer another doctor for the surgery. So, your choices depend on what you think about you.
