Acids in food such as vinegar (acetic acid), soda water (carbonic acid) and lemon juice (citric acid) are weak acids. Some acids can lose more than one proton. For example, carbonic acid can lose two protons, while citric and phosphoric acids can lose three. Bases, called alkalis if an OH- is involved, accept protons.

ACIDS - they r chemical compounds which have 1 or more hydrogen atoms and produce hydronium ions as the only positively charged particles on ionisation in water.
Ex - acetic acid , formic acid, oxalic acid, citric acid, etc
Ex - H2SO4 , HNO3 , HCL , H3PO4, ETC.....
BASES - they r also chemicla compounds which combine with the hydronium ions of an acid to produce salt and water only.
Only means only and that on reacting they produce nothing more than a salt and water.
Ex - NAOH , KOH, NH4OH, CA (OH) 2 , MG (OH)2 ETC.
Alkalis are soluble bases which produce hydroxyl ions on ionisation in water.
ACID + BASE ==========> SALT + WATER............NEUTRALISATION
