very active volcanoes include: Mount Nyiragongo and its neighbor, Nyamuragira, are Africa's most active volcanoes. Piton de la Fournaise, in Réunion, erupts frequently enough to be a tourist attraction. Erta Ale, in the Afar Triangle, has maintained a lava lake since at least 1906.

An active volcano is a volcano that has had at least one eruption during the past 10,000 years. An active volcano might be erupting or dormant.

There are over 1,500 active volcanoes currently.
Kilauea, in Hawai’i is the best example of a constantly erupting volcano, as is Mount Etna on the island of Sicily. There are many, many others, however. The two cited above are mainly know for their lava extrusions, but more violent volcanoes usually have separate and distinct eruptive episodes.
