Noble gases are monoatomic because they have complete octet (apart from Helium, which has duet) , hence they are highly stable on their own and do not react with others to form compounds in standard temperature and pressure conditions.

noble gases are mono atomic in nature

  1. these are gases having a complete octet state (He exist in duplet state) that is their outermost shell is completely filled.
  2. due to their stable electronic configuration they do not react with other elements.
  3. due to their high stability they do not form bonds with any other atoms and hence, they are mono atomic in nature.
  4. mono atomic means that the element exist in their single version.
  5. examples of noble gases are  - Helium (He) , Argon (Ar) , etc.
  6. the noble gases belong to group 18 of the modern periodic table.
