Antibiotics are chemical substances produced from bacteria and fungi and have the ability to inhibit the growth of other bacteria and fungi at low concentration.
Let's take an example of pencillin to understand how antibiotics work.
Bacteria develop cell wall to protect themselves. The antibiotic pencillin blocks the process of building cell wall by the bacteria. Due to which, bacteria are not able to make cell wall for their protection and hence they die easily. On antibiotic can work against many species of bacteria rather than simply working against one.

Antibiotics are medicines used to treat infections or diseases caused by bacteria(e.g. respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia and whooping cough). Antibiotics are used for a range of other infections caused by bacteria, including urinary tract infections, skin infections and infected wounds
