Bacteriophages attach to the bacteria and enter their genetic materials to enter the bacterial cells. The bacterial cell treats the viral genetic material as if it was it's own. The bacterial cell subsequently manufactures more virus particles.
Bacteriophages act as a vector because they have the ability to replicate within the bacterial cells and they provide the origin of replication. If we link an alien piece of DNA with the bacteriophage and multiply it, then we can get the equal number to the copy number of bacteriophage.
