Traditionally it is a morning raga.It is the defining raga of its own Thaat. Raag Kalingada in Hundustani and Raag Mayamalavagowla in Carnatic music have the same scale as Raag Bhairav in Hindustani music, although the moods they create can be quite different due to the way they are expounded
