Budding is a mode of asexual reproduction in which formation of an identical young ones from the parent by the formation of bud. The new organisms produced remain attached to the parent body or get separated .

Thus the newly created young ones are the exact copy of parents, so called clone.

Budding is of 2 types:-

  • Exogenous :- when bud like out growth develops on the parent body and it further forms young ones.

Example :- Hydra and yeast.

  • Endogenous :- when internal bud like structure in the form of gemmules develop further into young ones.

Example :- some sponges like spongilla.
