Answer

The special membranous structure formed by the extensions of plasma membrane into cytoplasm of prokaryotic cells is called Mesosome.

Functions of mesosome :

\bigstar Mesosome are involved in wall formation during division.

\bigstar Mesosome help in DNA replication and distribution of daughter cells.

\bigstar It involves in respiration, increase the surface area of the plasma membrane and secretory processes.

\bigstar Photosynthesic bacteria, cyanobacteria contain membranous extensions in the form of photosynthesic lamellae into the cytoplasm called chromatophores.

\bigstar These Photosynthesic lamellae can be independent or continuous with the plasma membrane.
