What are called mesosome and their function?
Answers
Answer
The special membranous structure formed by the extensions of plasma membrane into cytoplasm of prokaryotic cells is called Mesosome.
Functions of mesosome :
Mesosome are involved in wall formation during division.
Mesosome help in DNA replication and distribution of daughter cells.
It involves in respiration, increase the surface area of the plasma membrane and secretory processes.
Photosynthesic bacteria, cyanobacteria contain membranous extensions in the form of photosynthesic lamellae into the cytoplasm called chromatophores.
These Photosynthesic lamellae can be independent or continuous with the plasma membrane.
Define Mesosome ?
