Ozone hole is caused due to chlorine molecule which are present in chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

CFCs (carbon tetrachloride, CCl4; dichloro difluoro methane,CCl2 F3) are compounds that consists of chlorine, fluorine and carbon. The gases are used as coolant for refrigerators and air conditioners.

CFCs do not degrade easily in the lower atmosphere they rise into the stratosphere where they are broken down by UV radiations. The resultant chlorine molecule attack Ozone molecules and damage the Ozone layer of Earth.
