What are Centrosomes?

Ans: Centrosomes are organelles which serve as the main microtubule organizing centers for animal cells.

Key Points:

i) Centrosomes are made of from arrangement of two barrel-shaped clusters of microtubules, called “centrioles" and a complex of proteins that help additional microtubules to form.

ii) The proteins allow them to start and stop the formation of microtubule proteins. This enables them to control the formation of mitotic spindle fibers and other structures that play important roles in cellular development.
