The cleidoic egg (from Greek kleistos = closed) is the type of egg which reptiles and birds lay. Mammalian reproduction has evolved from layingcleidoic eggs to live birth. The cleidoic egg is sometimes called the amnioticegg, because it is characteristic of amniotes.
