Coral polyps are the tiny creatures that is found in symbiotic relationship with the algae zooxanthellae.

• The corals consist of three components- coral polyps as living organisms, photosynthetic algae zooxanthellae and coral reef which is a hardened structure of calcium carbonate.

• Coral polyps take nutrients (such as oxygen, calcium and carbonates) from sea water and zooxanthellae.

• The corals give shelter to the algae while algae provides color and nutrients to the corals.

• The growth of corals depend upon the calcium carbonate present in sea water.

• The body of corals is attached to one another. When one coral dies, the other grows above it.

•The coral reefs are formed due to the accumulation of skeletal structures of coral polyps.

Good night Have sweet dreams dear

Coral polyps are tiny, soft-bodied organisms related to sea anemones and jellyfish. At their base is a hard, protective limestone skeleton called a calicle, which forms the structure of coral reefs. Reefs begin when a polyp attaches itself to a rock on the sea floor, then divides, or buds, into thousands of clones.
