Covalent compounds are those compounds which are formed of two or more non metallic elements. Eg, NH3, HCl, etc.
They are different from ionic compounds because:
1) They are formed only of molecules, and ionic compounds are formed of ions.
2) Ionic compounds dissociate and form ions in their aqueous solutions, but covalent compounds (except polar covalent) does not ionize in solutions.
3) The melting and boiling points of covalent compounds are very low, so they are volatile. However, the mp and bp of ionic compounds are high, so they are less volatile.
