Firstly, it is wrong to believe that once a fair price shop is set up, the common man’s requirements of consumer goods are met at reasonable prices.

The fair price shops do not often lift the sanctioned quotas due to one reason or the other, causing dislocation in the smooth flow of commodities from producing centres to numerous (and often distant) consuming areas.

PDS stands for Public Distribution System.
It comprises ration shops where goods are sold for less than market price for poors.

 \large{ \sf{criticism \: of \: PDS  -  }}

1) PDS doesn't sell all the required goods. Only some goods are sold off like sugar, wheat, kerosene, salt, etc.

2) It is not fair. Many often it is seen that the distributors give less than what is marked by government.

3) Sometimes, they do black marketing by hoarding the supplies and sell them to shopkeepers.

4) Sometimes, they do not give everything to the people that is mentioned by government.

5) Many a times, rich people get PDS services and poor are lagged behind and do not get its profit.
