Crustal movement is the movement resulting from deformation of earth's crust.

Horizontal and vertical crustal movements in areas where major earthquakes occurs has cyclic nature which is correlated with  occurrence of major earthquakes.

Traceable phases in cycle are:

(1) Slow movement at constant rate,

(2) Rapid movement commencing from 10–20 years to few hours/days before an earthquake,

(3) Sudden movement at time of earthquake.
