The Collection consists of flowering plants, sporophytes (seedless) and Charophytes (algae). All ecological forms of aquatic and wetland species are cultivated: both rooting and rootless submerged species, plants with floating leaves and free floating, emergent plants, perennials as well as annuals. We cultivate common plants as well as rare and critically endangered species that are almostextinct from the Czech Republic. Visitors can admire species typical of bogs, fens, reed marshes and tall sedge communities. Species confined to denuded fishpond substrates, wet sand, rivers and lakes are also present. Plants in the Collection are arranged according to their ecological demands. Aquatic plants are grown in reservoirs with deep water, whereas wetland species are cultivated in shallow reservoirs filled with suitable substrata. In addition, the reservoirs are arranged according to trophy level, water alkalinity, substratum quality and shading. Therefore, an enormous diversity of aquatic and wetland species with various ecological demands can be seen on a small scale. All carnivorous species native to the Czech Republic are cultivated in the Collection. In addition, we grow more than 60 species of (sub)tropical carnivorous plants in a heated greenhouse. The outdoor collection of mosses is focused on peat mosses (Sphagnum). Near the main entrance few tropical wetland species are situated, e.g. papyrus sedge (Cyperus papyrus), Indian lotus (Nelumbo lotus) and water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes).
