Dams are the ones which are constucted on rivers in order to store water.
and this water are used for different purposes
a.for hydal power
b.for irrigation
c.for drinking
When the water level increases they open gates in order to send out water.
These dams allow us to store and not to drain water into oceans soon.

A DAM is a barrier constructed to hold back water and raise its level, forming a reservoir used to generate electricity or as a water supply. They help in conserving and managing water by storing large amount of water so that when there is no rain and your crops are too dry you can get water from the dam and it gets water from the river and rain.
