A determiner is a verb, phrase or affix that occurs in conjunction with a noun or  noun phrase.

  • A determiner serves to convey the relation in the sense of a noun or the phrase noun.
  • Determiners are majorly of six types.
  • Determiners include the articles such as a, an, the, the cardinal numbers such as one, two three and also the ordinal numbers like first, second, third.
  • For example - The shirt is red in colour. She has three kittens.

Determiner is a word which gets placed before a noun and if a noun is getting described by an adjective it comes bore that too. To be more clear it is a which introduces a noun.

It is necessary to put determiners before a singular noun but not mandatory for plural nouns.

Examples=>

1. This is the best place ever.

2. The dog was barking.

 3. Bags were sent to the Hotel or The bags were sent to the Hotel

In first sentence determiner "the" comes before adjective and in second sentence determiner "the" comes before the noun. In the third its not necessary to put determiner as its a plural noun.

Types of Determiners:-

1. Articles => a, an, the

2. Demonstratives => this, that, these and those

3. Quantifiers =>  all, few and many

4. Possessives => my, your, his, her, its, our and their
