Nitrogen behaves chemically like nonmetals , nitrogen forms compounds in nine different oxidation states . Nitrogen does not found stable catened compounds because of repulsion between lone pairs of eeeeeee........

Lithium behaves chemically different from higher conginers. It is due to very small size and high positive charge density, lithium has very high polarising power. For this reason lithium reacts with nitrogen to form Li3N i. e. Lithium nitride where as sodium does not react with gaseous nitrogen. This is the difference in behaviour between lithium and sodium when heated in nitrogen gas.
