Different word processors support different image formats. However, most of them support some common image formats which is convenient for users as well as for programs to process.  

The extensions of some of the most common image formats, supported by Word processing tools are as follows:

a) .bmp – Bitmap image

b) .gif – GIF image (Graphics Interchange Format)

c) .jpeg – JPEG image (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

d) .png – PNG image (Portable Network Graphics)

e) .ai – Adobe Illustrator file

f) .tiff – TIFF image (Tagged Image File Format)
