Hemoglobin (Hb or Hgb) is aprotein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body. In many cases, a low hemoglobin count is only slightly lower than normal and doesn't affect how you feel. If it gets more severe and causes symptoms, your low hemoglobin count may indicate you have anemia.

Hemoglobin is a main part of red blood cells and binds oxygen. If you have too few orabnormal red blood cells, or your hemoglobin is abnormalor low, the cells in your body will not get enough oxygen. Symptoms of anemia -- like fatigue -- occur because organs aren't getting what they need to function properly.
