The organ responsible for the elimination of metabolic waste products are called Excretory organs. They help in the elimination of nitrogenous wastes , water balance and maintains constant ionic composition of the extracellular fluid in the body.
A variety of excretory organs are present in the animal kingdom .In most invertebrates these structures are simple tubular forms. However in human and other vertebrates they are complex tubular structure called kidneys.
Some of the excretory structures in invertebrates mention below:-
1)Protonephridium:- It is a dead-end tubules within cellular units called flame bulbs. Each flame bulb had a tuft of cilia , plathyhelminths , riders, some anneldis , molluscs larvae and lancelets .
Protonephridia are primarily concerned with ionic and fluid volume regulation.Like osmoregulation.
2)Metanephridia:- It is the tubular excretory products which are in market in the fluid and enveloped by capillary network .
- They are found ij kist aneelids such as the earthworms. They help in removal of nitrogenous wastes and maintain fluid and ionic balance.
3)Malphian tubules:- These are blind tubular tractor floating in the in haemolymoh and opening into the digestive tract they are found in insects and other terrestrial arthropods.
Besides excretion they have a role in conserving water and salts effectively as they send wastes into the gut where water is reabsorbed.
4)Coxal glands:-These are the excretory structures in the arachnids.
5)Kidneys (Metanephridia / renal organs) and pericardial glands are the excretory structure found molluscs.
