The remains of Dead animal or plant that live in the remote past are known as fossils.

Age fossils can be determined by two ways:-

1. by relative method - when we dig into the earth we find fossils at the different depth. the Fossil which we find and layers closer to the surface of the earth are more recent and the fossils which are found deeper layer are older.


3. carbon dating method - in the carbon dating method, the age of fossils found by comparing the carbon 14 radioactivity left in fossils with the carbon 14 radioactivity present in living objects today.

A fossil is any preserved remains, impression, or trace of any once-living thing from a past geological age. Examples include bones, shells, exoskeletons, stone imprints of animals or microbes, objects preserved in amber, hair, petrified wood, oil, coal, and DNA remnants.

To establish the age of a rock or a fossil, researchers use some type of clock to determine the date it was formed. Geologists commonly use radiometric dating methods, based on the natural radioactive decay of certain elements such as potassium and carbon, as reliable clocks to date ancient events.
