Fossils are traces, remains and impressions of organisms from remote past. They are often referred as "written documents of evolution".

Two methods of determining the age of fossils are:-

1. Relative dating- The organisms found on shallow depths are more recent than those found deeper.

2. Dating using isotopes- This includes carbon dating, uranium and lead dating etc. The age of fossil is calculated by using half life concept.
