Earth wire prevents Electric shocks.
It is connected to the electrical cable of an appliance to prevents electric shocks. Actually it has very low resistance and allows current to pass through it easily. Whenever there is a fault in an Appliance..and if then a person touches it he might get a massive Electric shock. But the earth wire having lower resistance than the body allows the current to pass through it. It is so because the current has the tendency to pass through low resistance body. It thus direct the current towards earth and the person is saved from massive Electric shock which may lead to his death.
Earth wire or earthing is the proper connection of exposed metal parts of an electrical circuit to the ground. It is accomplished by thick copper wires. Earthing protects the appliances and human beings in case of insulation fail or accidental short circuit. When the live wire touches the earth wire, large current flows through it and causes the fuse to blow off or circuit breaker to trip and thereby protecting the appliance as well as users.
