Galaxies are a massive system of stars, gas, dust and dark matter, all of which orbit around the common centre of mass and are bound together by gravity.

Galaxies come in many different shapes and sizes; the two main type of galaxies are elliptical galaxies and spiral galaxies.

However, many other types exist such as dwarf galaxies, irregular galaxies and visible galaxies.
