Ground wave is defined as the wave which reaches the receiver from the transmitter without any kind of reflections from ionosphere. These waves can propagate through a considerable area of earth's surface in low frequency or middle frequency.
The ground wave cannot be used for short wave communication over long distance because long distance can result into disturbances in the ground waves due to some or the other reflections which are possible.
