The compounds formed by hydrogen and carbon are tetmed as hydro carbons

Saturated hydrocarbons are the hydrocarbon having carbon-carbon single bond and unsaturated hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons having multiple bonds

ʜʏᴅʀᴏᴄᴀʀʙᴏɴs:-

  • In organic chemistry, a hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon.
  • Hydrocarbons are examples of group 14 hydrides.
  • (Only for knowledge) Hydrocarbons from which one hydrogen atom has been removed are functional groups called hydrocarbyls.

  • The main difference between saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon is that saturated hydrocarbons contain only single covalent bonds between carbon atoms, whereas unsaturated hydrocarbons contain at least one double or triple covalent bond in the main chain
  • Saturated Hydrocarbons: Saturated hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons with only single covalent bonds.
  • Unsaturated Hydrocarbons: Unsaturated hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons with multiple covalent bonds (double and triple bonds).
