What are interferons? In Indian books it's written that interferon are glycoproteinaceous substance which are released by infected cells & attacks on viruses to protects other living cells whereas in American books it's written that interferon are alarming proteins that call natural killer cells so that they could induce apoptosis or pyroptosis to to the infected cells so that they die and thus preventing the further damage to cells.. What is the real reason?

when a cell is infected by viral infection. the infected cell release interferons which have anti viral properties and stimulate adjacent cell to produce translation inhibiting protein(TIP).
By this mechanism interferon limits the infecsn of virus.
interferons make cells resistant to viral infecsn by synth. of antiviral proteins in that cell.

but what about interferons as cellular alarm that invites the natural killer cells (NKC) to trigger traumatic cell death..
