Inter molecular forces can be defined as the forces acting in between the molecules.

Explanation:

This force can be the force of attraction or can be the force of repulsion. The force in between the particles. It can be atoms or ions.

These are related to the three states of matter in the way that the in case of solid, the molecules are closely packed and the force of attraction in between them is more, stronger intermolecular forces act in between them.

Incase of liquids the molecules are bit far away from each other and the intermolecular forces are less.

Then comes the gases which has least intermolecular forces in between their molecules as they are really far from another one.
