The molecules in solid, liquid and gas are joined together by the following forces:
Van der wals force occurs due to the interaction between the molecules.
Ion-ion interaction occurs due to the electrostatic force of attraction Ion- dipole force due to positive and negative charges
Gasses are equipped with van der wal forces of attraction while solids have ionic forces.

The force between two particles or molecules present in a matter is called intermolecular force. The molecules of solid state have Highest force between them whereas the gas molecules have the least force between them.
