the molecules in liq.,solids and real gases are held together by forces among molecules are called intermolecular forces.they may beof
types
van der waals forces- mainly exists in state having molecules
ion-ion interaction-- very strong forces in ionic solids
ion-dipole interaction
dipole-dipole interaction
gases mostly have vander waal type weak forces
on the other hand solids have strong inter molecular forces like ion- ion interaction

Intermolecular forces are forces acting between the molecules of matter. Because of these forces molecule is attached to the other. Greater the attraction between the molecules lesser will be the space between them and higher will be the density of matter. So, following is the order of strength of intermolecular forces between the various states of matter.
Solid > Liquid >Gas
