The Compound which are formed by transfer of one or more electrons from the outermost shell of an atom to another atom are called Ionic compounds.

in other words, we can say that the compounds which are made up of Ions are known as ionic compound.

1. They are in solid state and molecules are held Together by a strong forces so that they do not easily vaporise.

2. They have high melting and boiling points.

4. They are soluble in water but insoluble in organic solvent.

Ionic compounds are the compounds which are filled with ions i.e (both positive and negative)

The important properties of ionic compounds are as follows:-

1) they form crystals.

2) they are hard.

3) they are brittle.

Eg:- Table salt (NaCl)
