Jet streams are westerly winds of narrow belt at high altitude (above 12,000 m) in the troposphere.
They have an approximate speed of 110 km/h during summers and 184 km/h during winters. There are a lot of separate jet streams.
The mid-latitude and sub tropical jet stream are more constant.
In India, these generally blow south of the Himalayas, all round the year excepting summers.
These jet streams are responsible for bringing western cyclonic disturbances in the north and northwestern parts of the country.
During summers, the subtropical westerly winds move north of Himalayas.
