Jet stream :-a narrow variable band of very strong predominantly westerly air currents encircling the globe several miles above the earth. There are typically two or three jet streams in each of the northern and southern hemispheres.

What is Jet Stream?

Jet Stream are the fast and the Swiftly blowing winds which blows over the Height of 2 to 3 kilometers above the Sub-tropical high pressure belts.

Role of Jet Stream in the Arrival of Monsoon.

The Himalayas acts as a Barrier in their paths and as such the westerly is divided into the easterly and westerly jet.The westerly jet is responsible for bringing western Disturbances into north west India and Pakistan which Brings Winter Rainfall.

The easterly Jet blowing over northern India is responsible for Bringing Tropical Depressions over India and Bangladesh. These depressions play a significant role in the Distribution of the Rainfall.
