Jet streams are fast flowing, narrow, meandering air currents in the atmospheres of some planets, including Earth. On Earth, the main jet streams are located near the altitude of the tropopause and are westerly winds. Their paths typically have a meandering shape.

these are narrow belt of high altitude (above 12,000) westerly winds in the troposphere . their speed varies from about 110 km /h in summer about to about 184 km / h in winter. a number of separate jet stream have been identified . the most constant are the mid-latitude and the tropical jet stream
