Joints :

  • The place inside body where two or more bones meet is known as joints.

Joints are mainly divided into three types :

  • Immovable or fixed joints
  • Slightly movable joints
  • Freely movable joints

1. Immovable or fixed joints :

  • Joints which do not allow any movement are called immovable joints. For example - joints in the skull.

2. Slightly movable joints :

  • The joints which allow only a slight movement like bending and rotation called slightly movable joints.

  • These joints are present between vertebrae of the backbone and ribs and the breast bone.

3. Freely movable joints :

  • The joints which allow free movement of the body parts in different directions are called freely movable joints.

  • These joints are mostly present between the limb bones.
