hey there,

Metals:- they are substances which are electropositive in nature. they have a tendency to lose electrons.

physical properties of metals:-
1) they are malleable- can be beaten into sheets.
2) they are ductile- can be drawn into wires.
3) they are sonorous- can make ringing sounds.
4) they are lustrous- shiny appearance.
5) they have high melting and boiling points, tensile strength and high density.
6) good conductors of heat and electricity.

chemical properties of metals:-
1) they form +ve ions.
2) they form oxides and hydroxide.
3) they form metallic bonds.

Non-metals:- they are substances which are electronegative in nature. they have a tendency to gain electrons.

Physical properties of non-metals:-
1) they are soft.
2) they are non-malleable.
3) they are non-ductile.
4) they are not sonorous.
5) they are poor conductors of heat and electricity.

chemical properties of non- metals:-
1) they gain atoms and form anions.
2) form ionic bond with metals and covalent bond with non-metals.
3) oxides are acidic in nature.
4) act as good oxidising agent.

when metals are burnt in air, generally metal oxide is formed as a product.
eg:- 4Mg + O2 ----> 2Mg2O.
