There are many ways.but these two mentioned below are the best according to me as they are very easy to perform in the labs
1)first take a primary (or secondary) alcohol…do a tosylation reaction….and then add Potassium Iodide(or any hallide of your choice except fluoride) in DMF or Acetone solvent using a phase transfer catalyst…
2)the another method uses a name reaction-Appel reaction.take an alcohol(preferably primary)…then add Triphenylphosphine and carbon tetrachloride…the end product will be an alkyl chloride.
