The evolutionary story of mitochondria and plastid says that, these organellesas we know them to be now actually existed as independent entities(millions of years ago)that could synthesise their own proteins and replicate too. ... Hence, mitochondria and plastids arecalled semi-autonomous.

Hello,

The cell is called as the structural and functional unit of life as it performs all the basic life processes required for the life existence.

Mitochondria and the plastids are the organelle which are termed as semi autonomous organelle.

This is because both the organelle have some extra features.
Both the organelle have double membrane that is outer and inner membrane.

Both of these have their own ribosomes.

Moreover,
These organelle have their own genetic material that is DNA.

Also, these have some special materials which are present in them for their functioning.

This is why,
Mitochondria and plastids are called as semi - autonomous organelles.

Hope this will be helping you.....
