Nucleoid is an irregular shaped sac present in the prokaryotic cells, which carry the genetic material of the cell.

The genetic material is called as genophore.

Nucleoid is same as the nucleus in Eukaryotic cells but is not surrounded by a cell membrane. It is also called as false nucleus.
