Oxide are a compound in which 1 element is oxygen metallic oxide is basic in nature while non metallic oxide is acid in nature

Eg metal oxide=sodiumoxide(nao) and non metal oxide =nitrogen oxide(na2o3)Explanation:

Oxides are chemical compounds that are formed when elements react with oxygen. As the name suggests oxides are all the element that have atleast one oxygen atom.

It is very Important to note the following points :

1)Most of the elements in the periodic table can react with oxygen and form their respective oxides.

2)Oxygen is highly electronegative and that is why it is able to react with elements very easily.

3)Oxides that are formed on metals due to the reaction of metals with oxygen is a nuisance and causes rusting.

4)Gold and platinum are expensive metals because they do not react with oxygen and hence do not form oxides.

5)metallic oxides are copper oxide(CUO) and zinc oxide(ZNO).

6)Non-metallic oxides are about dioxide and nitrogen dioxide.
